Development of Remote Vehicle Video Control System

Reducing the risk of car accidents and money losses by increasing of number of employees driving safely by 4 times

Industry:
Transport & Logistics
Project Type:
Cloud-based software development and testing

Challenge

Aim of analyzing and preventing the frequency of incidents

When a company opts to establish its own fleet instead of renting vehicles, certain issues are resolved, while new ones emerge. On the positive side, the business no longer relies on third-party providers and gains complete control over its vehicles and staff. Conversely, the company must independently handle situations where vehicles are far from the office and parking facilities. It needs to manage numerous employees responsible for valuable cars, fuel, and cargo, and ensure the safety and well-being of people if it transports passengers.

Management must evaluate the employees’ driving style, the risks of car crashes and to determine motivation strategies. Safety issues with personnel driving habits can lead to accidents and financial losses. Our customer, a logistics company, transported important and dangerous cargo, and wanted to create a safe driving culture for reducing the probability of truck crashes. The firm has IT staff but they did not specialize in cloud-based software development.

Solution

A novel approach to remote fleet management and improving safe driving style

The Ubiex’ experienced software development team created the digital solution including cloud storage connected with 150 HD cameras. Trucks were equipped with HD cameras that recorded everything occurring around them. Each vehicle had three cameras: one facing forward, one facing backward, and one directed at the driver.

The fleet manager gets notification, if the driver is taking a curve too fast, or slowing down harshly, or falling asleep, or violating the traffic laws.

Drivers received scores based on their driving safety and adherence to rules. Safe drivers were categorized in the “green” zone, frequent violators in the “red” zone, and occasional violators in the “yellow” zone. A KPI system and financial incentives were linked to these scores. Drivers in the “green” zone earned bonuses, fostering a culture of safe driving.

Fleet owners and managers must assess driver performance and skill levels to determine training, motivation strategies and enhance quality of transportation services. Providing a modern, customized digital solution for remote vehicle control, we help you to improve personnel driving habits, to prevent safety issues and reduce the risk of accidents and financial losses.

Result

A breakthrough digital tool that improves safe driving style and reduces money losses Ubiex’ cloud-based fleet management system leads to:

Promoting a driving culture:
Our customer established a defensive driving style, increasing the number of employees who meet the safe car handling targets by 4 times. When we just established our video control system, the fleet managers became aware that more than 70% of their employees drove unsafely (they were in “yellow” and “red” zones). Then the company informed the drivers about the new remote vehicle management system, established the system of KPIs based on defensive car handling, and worked out financial motivation for people entering the “green” zone. In 6 months, more than 80% of drivers moved to the “green” zone.

Optimizing costs:
Safe driving reduces the likelihood of accidents, protects cargo, and minimizes passenger injury risks. Consequently, expenses for vehicle repairs, cargo damage fines, and injury compensations decrease.

Improving quality of services:
Enhancing the culture of safe driving improves service quality for both passengers and business clients.

Boosting staff motivation:
A transparent bonus system based on driving quality motivates personnel to work better.
